The Institute of Public Finance and the Croatian National Bank co-organised the book presentation by Sanja Bach, spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance. The book is titled “Fiscal Boards in the European Union: Transparency and Accountability in Managing Public Finance”. The book presentation also served as the cause to discuss the work of the Croatian Fiscal Policy Committee, which featured the Committee President Ms Sandra Krtalić and her Deputy Mr Maroje Lang from the Croatian National Bank.
Sanja Bach’s book adopts a new approach to fiscal “watchdogs” and fiscal regulations by analysing them as potential means of communication with the public with the aim of increasing transparency and accountability in managing public finance.

As Sandra Krtalić explained, the aim of fiscal committees as independent fiscal institutions is to promote sustainable public finance through public assessments of fiscal plans and their evaluation. "The role of fiscal bodies as independent fiscal institutions is not to steer the work of the Government and authorities toward measures that should be taken but rather to highlight the consequences of political decisions on the sustainability of public finance and public debt”, Krtalić said. Maroje Lang estimated that the current reform of the economic management system could further strengthen their position.

The presentation was held online. The recording and the presentations by Sanja Bach and Maroje Lang are all available online.
