The Croatian Chamber of Economy, via its county chambers, conducted a survey about the educational needs in small and medium enterprises in Croatia, with special focus on entrepreneurial skills. The survey has been conducted in March 2009. In the survey, selected companies were asked to fill the questionnaire with 20 questions.
The basic goal of the survey and the subsequent analysis was to identify the training and education needs in small and medium enterprises. Also, the survey aimed to find out who in the company is responsible for the realisation of educational activities, the average number of days used for training, and how these activities have been financed.
The analysis shows low level of usage of state subsidies for adult education and training. The lowest level of usage is in the micro-companies (up to 10 employees), and they are also the least informed about the existence of the subsidies. It is difficult to use the obtained results to explain with certainty why subsidies are not used more. The analysis provides a possible explanation as well as suggestions for improvement.
