Ana María Ríos Martínez from the University of Murcia visited the Institute of Public Finance on 5 October 2026 as part of the project Fiscal decentralization in Croatia – current state, challenges and potential solutions (FISDEC).

During the working meeting with members of the research team, the discussion focused on the implementation of the project to date, completed activities, and activities planned for the upcoming period. Particular attention was devoted to their further development, as well as to opportunities for Croatia and Spain to participate in joint comparative research.

To provide additional context on Croatia and the current state of fiscal decentralization, the meeting also included a discussion of the paper Fiscal decentralization in Croatia twenty-five years after the reform: Current state, persistent challenges and policy implications, which represents one of the planned research outputs of the project’s first year. The paper was presented by the Project manager Branko Stanić at the 2026 Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Conference, held in Poznań, Poland, from 14 to 16 September 2026.

The visit also included a meeting with the Institute’s Director, Vjekoslav Bratić, attended by Ana María Ríos Martínez and members of the research team. The discussion focused on opportunities to further strengthen links between the research activities of the two institutions.

The working visit of Ana María Ríos Martínez and Branko Stanić’s participation in the conference in Poznań were funded by the Croatian Science Foundation as part of the project Fiscal decentralization in Croatia – current state, challenges and potential solutions.
