On 11 July 2022, to mark World Population Day, the World Youth Alliance Croatia organised a roundtable discussion “Population is the solution or problem of Croatia’s economic growth?”. The scientific associate at the Institute of Public Finance Martina Pezer took part in the panel.

Ms Pezer highlighted the importance of family support as an investment into the entire society in the context of social policies aimed at families and children. She compared Croatia’s State budget allocations for families with those in other European countries and clarified whether the new amendments to the Act on Maternity and Parental Benefits would meet the families’ realistic needs.

The aim of the roundtable was to recognise the population as the initiators of Croatia’s development and to maintain public discussion on the development of public policies that would respond to society’s contemporary needs. The roundtable also saw the participation of State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy Ivan Vidiš, the President of Pragma Association and the Croatian Network against Poverty Nedjeljko Marković and youth delegate at the UN Josip Perkušić.
