Assistant Romario Marijanović held on 20 March 2026 an educational lecture on public finance on the example of the City of Rijeka budget to students of the Mijo Mirković School of Economics in Rijeka, as part of the European and Global Money Week.
As part of the lecture, he presented the basic concepts related to the city budget - what a budget is, how it is planned, and its key parts. He explained to the students where revenues come from and how public funds are spent, with particular emphasis on the importance of transparency and responsible management of public finances.
Through a concise overview of the economic and functional classification of the budget, he explained the structure of revenues, expenditures, and financing, including the method of borrowing and debt repayment. Using the example of the City of Rijeka budget, students were introduced to the most important projects and activities, helping them better understand the practical application of the budget in real life.
The lecture aimed to develop students’ financial literacy and a better understanding of the role of public finances in everyday life.
This activity was organized within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026 – NextGenerationEU – under the implementation activity Popularization of science and the arts.
